Genealogy Charts and Family Trees

This page contains links to several family trees and genealogical charts related to our family.
It also has a link to a summary document that I started but is not complete.

Many thanks to Steve Stumpp, who provided much of the material here.

vom Saal family genealogy:
Summary document
[in progress!]

Summary information about my father's side of the family (vom Saal)

This document is not yet available on line because it includes information about living individuals. If you want a copy, contact me.

This is a document I (Walter vom Saal) prepared to try to keep various information about family members and their relationships in one place. It is a Microsoft Word document. It includes:
- a listing of family members organized by family, going back to Friedrich William Heppenheimer and down to my grandchildren (7 generations).
- miscellaneous information about many of the people listed.
- additional information from several other documents, not yet entered into the main chart.
- some (but only a small portion) of the material sent by Steve Stumpp
- A bit of information on other relatives such as the Sahler family and the Pattberg family (from Steve Stumpp)
- A little bit of information about places and locations in Germany that relate to family history.

Much of the information is incomplete and some of it is certainly wrong. It needs to be better organized, with supplementary information in the second part of the document moved up and incorporated into the main chart. However, since I may never get to those things, I'm posting it as is for now.

Towle family genealogy summary document

[very preliminary!]

This document is not yet available on line because it includes information about living individuals. If you want a copy, contact me.

A similar document for the Towle family, but very preliminary. These are the ancestors and relatives of my mother, Jane Talmadge Towle vom Saal. [Microsoft Word Document]

Old historical documents

This is a scan of a genealogical chart titled "von Heppenheim vom Saal." It shows dates from 1019 to 1688 and shows the family coat of arms. It is from a from a German book owned by Fred vom Saal, and was sent to me by him in August 2008.

Update November 1, 2011. I now have the book that contained this genealogical chart, and have begun to post a few preliminary photos of selected pages, including the page copied above. I am attempting to find out how to preserve and repair some pages of the book, which is dated 1707. The preliminary photos are shown in the Documents section of this website. Direct links:

This is a scan of a document found with other old family documents. It seems to have been a copy of a book from germany, and shows part of a page titled "Heppenheim genannt vom Saal." The dates I can make out range from 1560 to 1672. It shows the family coat of arms. Unfortunately the document I found is in very poor condition and shows only an incomplete portion of the original page. The chart is currently in my posession (WvS).
Charts from Steve Stumpp
Christina Hofer was my g-g-grandmother (see below). Seven generations of her ancestors going back to about 1580.

This chart shows all of the following: Seven generations of descendants of
Johann Hofer (1675-1737) (my g-g-g-g-g-g-g-F),
who was the father of Michael Hofer (~1699-1768) (my g-g-g-g-g-g-F),
who was the father of Daniel Hofer (1738-1794) (my g-g-g-g-g-F),
who was the father of Johann Evangelista Hofer (1778-1850) (my g-g-g-g-F),
who was the father of Christina Hofer (1830-1884, came to U.S.A.) (my g-g-g-M),
who was the mother of Dr. Frederick Charles Heppenheimer vom Saal (1854-1905) (my g-g-F),
who was the father of Frederick Maximillian von Heppenheim vom Saal (1883-1981) (my g-F),
who was the father of W. Rudolf vom Saal (F) (1911-2004),
who was the father of me (WRvS).

Eight generations of ancestors of "Frederick" Friedrich Ludwig Heppenheimer (1826-1878), going back to the late 1500's. Frederick Heppenheimer was the father of Dr. Frederick Charles Heppenheimer vom Saal, so he was my g-g-grandfather.
Information on "Frederick" Friedrich Ludwig Heppenheimer (1826-1878), his wife Christina Hofer, and their 7 children. The eldest child was Dr. Frederick Charles Heppenheimer (or von Heppenheim, depending on where you look) vom Saal.
Information on "William" Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Heppenheimer (1833-1910), his wife and their 7 children.
Information on Elizabeth Heppenheimer (1843-1913), her husband Robert Lindmueller, and their 7 children.
Nine generations of descendants of Hans Heppenheimer (d. 1626), going down to Dr. Frederick Charles von Heppeheim vom Saal. Therefore this chart goes back 7 more generations beyond my great grandfather (Dr. FCvHvS), which is 2 generations further back than the John Hofer descendants chart above.

Many thanks to Steve Stumpp for the enormous amount of time and effort put into creating these charts.
